My Story

Looking for a creative, goal oriented and organized mind? One that is backed with years of experience and big picture perspective to lead/join your next project or creative team? Welcome to the right place! While actively working in the creative world for over fifteen years, I have gained a great deal of know how, foresight and skill set to ensure initiatives are executed beautifully and within scope, while managing expectations of executives, stakeholders and the participating team members. It is my objective to achieve all of the above while making each project a positive experience rather than just another task.

As a kid, I had an interest in the arts and all things thought provoking. It was inevitable that my career would be that of all things creative. As a bright eyed but practical teen, I chose to focus on graphic design. It struck a balance of creativity and logic for an expressive yet funded future. Naturally, fresh out of college and with a new found detest for instant ramen noodles, I began my professional journey in the print industry.

While there was equilibrium between creative work and paid bills as a Pre Press Designer, I aspired for more. Freelancing was the optimal way to achieve a more fulfilling level of both. However, I quickly realized something so obvious. The world was exploding. No, not literally. Exploding online. It wasn’t long until every client consultation begin with that question, “Do you design websites?” My answer? Kinda-ish… Though I got by for a short time, having only ever designing for the press, I knew if I was going to succeed and best serve my clients I needed more knowledge.
It was when achieving my second degree, focused on Web and Interactive Media, that I was introduced to photography and video production. Yes! It all started coming together. No longer would I be confined by the options of stock photography and if a print piece didn’t sell an idea I could whip up a website to reach a larger audience. Then, of course, I could supplement content with video when the written word didn’t appeal to the ever depleting attention spans of the modern consuming audience.

For what seemed like years, I was pumping out projects and accumulating skill after skill as rapidly as those pesky student loan payments were going out. It was my existence – until I felt that itch. I needed more and this time that little voice of mine wasn’t the only one poking the ambition beast. Inspired by the motivation of my now husband, I moved to Los Angeles to give it the good ol’ college try. Go big or go home. Right? Of course, this meant I would need to build a new client base or head back to the office – anything to keep the lights on and I couldn’t bear the thought of going back to microwaveable noodles.

In such a competitive market, I relied on my trusty print background to land a production manager position at a nearby Minuteman Press. Passionately continuing to apply for anything and everything as I strived to feed the beast and maintain the balance of creative vs financially stable, I optimistically took a job with Erin Condren Designs as a seasonal production designer. Needless to say, the scales tipped and pointed to poverty, but I saw the potential and opportunities to grow. “All in” they say. It was a gamble but sure enough, within two years I climbed from production designer among the masses to Project Manager/Business Analyst and UI/UX Designer, leading principal eCommerce initiatives for what was becoming an extremely successful company and brand.
During my time with the amazing team at Erin Condren Designs, I developed a mentoring relationship turned friendship with a fellow web consultant. He was a pivotal player in my ongoing journey to a better me. So, without hesitation I said yes when he offered the opportunity to partake in his online start up, Hydro Empire. You’ll see that heavily represented in my portfolio. However, like many start up stories, expenses often outweigh income. Regretfully, due to the ill fortune of a key financial backer, my involvement became unsustainable. No worries though. This just means I’m single (professionally) and ready to mingle. One door closes… Maybe you’re the next chapter in my story. Let’s create something awesome together. Contact me!
